The Catholic archbishop of Lagos, Rev. Dr. Adewale Martins, yesterday called on Christians
to look beyond their past ways of doing things and think of better ways to live
a meaningful life.
The Archbishop made this call, when he paid a visit to Our
lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic church, Ogba yesterday.
He insisted that every known good man was once good or bad,
but the act of a positive new life defines a man and is capable of replacing
his old identity.
“Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future” he
said.
The Archbishop was in the Parish to administer the Sacrament
of Confirmation on about 400 deserving candidates and also to commission the
Holy Rosary medical centre built by the church.
The Parish Priest, Rev Fr. Emmanuel Idoko and his associate Rev.
Fr. Joseph Ozoh Nwokeforo thanked the archbishop and appealed to the people to
make good use of the hospital as the church has made frantic efforts to subsidize
the cost of service delivery.
Visitations to Catholic parishes and Church institutions
within a given ecclesiastical jurisdiction, is the duty of the Bishop, according
to the Council of Trent and the third Plenary Council of Baltimore, which
requires a bishop to visit every part of his diocese at least once every three
years, not only that he may administer the Sacrament of Confirmation, but
likewise that he may know his people.
