The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Wednesday
announced that it would conduct examination for private candidates twice a
year, starting from 2017.
Iyi Uwadiae, registrar of the council, made this known to
journalists during WAEC’s ‘Registrar’s Staff Appraisal Committee’ meeting on in
Accra, Ghana.
Uwadiae noted that WAEC made the new addition to its
calendar to ensure that many private candidates have the opportunity of writing
the examination and acquire the certificate.
The WAEC registrar said the examination will take place in
January/February and August/September.
“The West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination
(WASSCE) for private candidates known as the November/December diet for private
candidates will now be conducted in January/February and August/September.”
“We have concluded arrangements to commence writing of our
WASSCE for private candidates twice a year from 2017. This will take place in
January /February and August/September every year in all the member countries.
“This development, however, does not affect that of the
school candidates, popularly called May/June. That one remains once a year for
all school candidates,” Uwadiae said.
