The Spanish club's president has joked that he has already warned the Argentina Football Association against a move for his manager.
Atletico Madrid’s president has
jokingly said that he will not allow Diego Simeone to become Argentina's next head coach.
Simeone is widely regarded as one of the best managers in world football having guided Atletico to the Liga title in 2014, as well as success in the Europa League, the Super Cup and the Copa del Rey.
The 46-year-old has also reached two Champions League finals in the last three years, although Atletico were beaten by Real Madrid on both occasions.
Following Sunday’s defeat in the Copa America final to Chile, Gerardo Martino’s position as head coach has subject to speculation, although the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has confirmed that he will lead the Under-23 team through the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August.
But when asked what he thought about the rumours linking Simeone to Argentina, Enrique Cerezo replied: "I said no to the AFA, they can do what they want."
