John Obi Mikel was on target for Chelsea in their 8-0
thumping of Atus Ferlach on Thursday. Mikel’s deflected goal doubled the Blues’
lead after Loic Remy had netted the curtain raiser after a good build up from
the Nigerian and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
New signing Michy Batshuayi got a brace after coming on as a
half-time substitute against the Austrian minnows with Loic Remy scoring a
hat-trick in the friendly played behind-closed-doors.
However, there was no place for Victor Moses as he was not
listed for the game as the Blues prepare to face Liverpool, Real Madrid and AC
Milan in the International Champions Cup.
The goal would serve as a morale booster for Mikel who would
be hoping to stake a regular place in Conte’s squad when the new season begins.
Also, he is expected to lead Nigeria U23 team to the 2016
Rio Olympic Games which kicks off next month – as the Dream Team VI face
Sweden, Colombia and Japan in the preliminary rounds.
