Marco Bueno made the difference for Mexico U23, as the home team downed Nigeria 1-0 in a friendly on Sunday.
Raúl Gutiérrez’ side ramped up its preparations for the forthcoming Olympics by dominating a decidedly one-sided clash in Aguascalientes and should have won by a far more emphatic score line.
Bueno’s spectacular effort in the 65th minute was the highlight for Mexico against the Dream Team VI who struggled to retain possession.
Samson Siasia, however, may have been concerned by an unconvincing defensive performance from his charges and will hope for significant improvement in that department during upcoming friendlies, by which time the Dream Team will have a picture of Rio bound players.
Mexico have been zoned in Group C against Fiji, Germany and Korea Republic while Nigeria must negotiate their way past Japan, Sweden and Colombia in their quest for a second Olympic football title.
