A Nigerian bishop who reports that Jesus appeared to him to
inspire a rosary crusade now believes that the Boko Haram terrorist campaign
“will soon fizzle out.”
Bishop Oliver Dashe Doeme of Maiduguri reports that Boko
Haram has been less active recently, and says the change is “mostly because of
the prayers of the people.”
Last year Bishop Doeme said that while he was praying, he
experienced a vision in which Jesus handed him a sword, which was transformed
into a rosary. “I didn’t need any prophet to give me the explanation,” he said.
“It was clear that with the rosary we would be able to expel Boko Haram.”
Bishop Doeme, whose diocese had been a hub of Boko Haram,
began to encourage rosary processions and daily recitation of the rosary in
Catholic parishes, schools, and homes. Since that time, Boko Haram has suffered
a series of reverses, so that Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has
proclaimed that the terrorist group is “technically defeated.”
The bishop notes that the rosary has been shown to be an
effective weapon, in historical events such as the battle of Lepanto.
