Many healthy people today worry about their poor financial
status, lack of mansions, cars and other good things life can offer. But there are others who are not that healthy
but live every day in appreciation to God.
One of such people is Nick Vujicic
who was born on the 4th of
December 1982 with no arms and no legs. He says
“I won’t pretend my life is easy, but
through the love of my parents, loved ones, and faith in God, I have overcome
my adversity and my life is now filled with joy and purpose”.
It may surprise you
but it’s true that Nick who is also a pastor is married to a beauty queen, Kanae.
They both live in California and blessed with children.
Then, if you think that Nick lives in isolation and anger
over his physical challenges, you must wake up from your dream because his
problem is how to see people’s lives changed for better or touched in some ways.
Their daily prayer intention is to positively make impact in the life of
another fellow especially with his story.
He was born in Melbourne, Australia, and it was a shock to
his parents, Dushka and Boris Vujicic that he arrived without limbs. There is
no medical reason for it.
When the parents got tired of seeking medical
explanation, they moved on with life by doing their very best to keep him in the
mainstream school system and gave him every opportunity to live to the fullest.
He was blessed to have a brother and a sister who were his best friends.
He later moved to Brisbane, Australia, where he lived for
14 years before he moved to California.
At age eight, Nick
became tired of life and could not see a bright future ahead, he was depressed.
When he was ten years old, he decided to end his life by drowning himself in a
bathtub. After a couple attempts, It dawned on him, he was about to leave his
loved ones with the burden and guilt that would result from his suicide. He
could not do that to them.
He lived the better part of his childhood with depression, at
age 13, he hurt his little foot, with which he used for many things like
typing, writing and swimming. He said.
“That injury made me realize that I
need to be more thankful for my abilities and less focused on my disabilities”.
At age 15, he concluded he was going to live, sealed his
faith in God and the amazing journey of his life began.
One day, Nick ran into a Watchman who was employed by his
high school. This Watchman inspired him to reject inferiority complex but to
start speaking about his faith and overcoming adversity. He practiced to speak
to people in tens up to his 17th birthday when he found himself in
front of about three hundred students and was very nervous. His knees were
shaking.
Within the first three minutes of his speech, half the ladies
were crying, and the boys were struggling to hold their emotions together. A
lady in particular was sobbing very hard. She carried her hands on her head.
She said, “I am so sorry to interrupt, but can I come up and hug you?”
She moved up, not only hugged Nick but whispered in his
ear, “Thank you, thank you, thank you. No one has ever told me that they loved
me and that I am beautiful the way I am.”
The lady’s gratitude was the inspiration Nick needed to
start his tour of about 44 countries where he delivered about 2,000 speeches.
During the tours, he realized that we all need love and hope and that he was in
a unique position to share that with people around the world.
Though, Nick was a University graduate of accounting and financial
planning, he worked on developing abilities as a speaker and a presenter, aided
by a speech coach who worked more on his body language.
He specialised on motivational topics which led him to
establish a company, attitude is altitude. He also launched a non-profit
ministry, life without limbs, to spread his message of faith and hope around
the world.
The story of the limbless Pastor Nick will not be complete
without the following words of his,
“Dream big my friend and never give
up. We all make mistakes, but none is a mistake ...
“Take one day at a time. Embrace the
positive attitudes, perspectives, principles and truths I share, and you too
will overcome”.
