Nigerian Professional League May Be Growing But Remains A Standard Disgrace -- Wisemen Reporter

If the standard of professional league all around the world is put face to face with that of Nigeria, it may be necessary to immediately remove the word “professional” from the Nigerian version because it is not better than a standard disgrace.

This WISEMEN Reporter was of this opinion after watching the 2016 final league match between MFM and Ifeanyi Ubah FC at the Agege Stadium on Sunday.

The match was disrupted for like ten minutes because a player of MFM was red carded by the centre referee.  The Player practically refused to go out of the field of play which seemed to enjoy the approval of his team mates and management.

When the game finally resumed, every decision of the centre referee against MFM was contested by the players against every professional standard’.

Again, while the second half was on, the Centre Referee had to stop the match again when he noticed that the ball boys had only but two balls of all other balls with which they started.

As the match resumed again, it was so obvious that the ball boys were very reluctant picking up the balls which forced ifeanyi Ubah players and bench to become ball boys.

Though,  Ifeanyi Ubah FC trailed to the end of the match but showed some level of maturity when compared with the players of MFM and management  who so frustrated the referee that the police had to escort them to the dressing room during the break.

At the blast of the final whistle, the crowd had to surge onto the playing turf with ease that if MfM had lost that match, there would have been crises.

The Ifeanyi Ubah Boys were awarded a penalty but lost it while they also lost a player to the referee’s red card. The match ended 1.0 in favour of MFM who escaped relegation with that result.
