At exactly 12noon American time and 6pm Nigerian time, the
45th President of America, Billionaire businessman and television
personality, Donald J. Trump, was sworn
in before a mammoth crowd of about 900,000 at the presidential Capitol Hill. In
the presence of former presidents, Bill Clinton and wife, Hillary, George Bush,
and other diginitaries.
As the rain sprinkled down on his shoulders, President Trump
said "January 20, 2017 will be remembered as the day the people became the
rulers of this nation again."
The message of President Trump's speech today was one of
giving power back to the people and uniting the country.
"This is your day. This is your celebration, and this,
United States of America, is your country," he said.
He also thanked President Obama and first lady Michelle
Obama, whom he called "magnificent."
Trump added that he would "fight" for America, and
that he would "never, ever, ever" let the people down.
And he touched on some of the biggest topics from his
campaign, such as border security and job creation. "We will follow two
simple rules: Buy American and hire American."
A greenhorn in politics, Trump defeated Hillary Clinton,
former secretary of state, in the November 8 election.
At 70, he has officially become the oldest man to be elected
US president. He has taken the record from Ronald Reagan who was only 69 when
he took office.
