JAMMED OF GAMBIA ASKS BUHARI, OTHERS TO POSTPONE THE GAMBIA TRIP

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday. Buhari and other ECOWAS leaders had after their meeting in Abuja Monday resolved to visit Jameh on Wednesday on the need for him to respect the constitution of his country and hand over to the country's president-elect.

Shehu said in accepting to postpone the visit earlier planned to take place on Wednesday, Buhari, who is mediating alongside former Ghanaian president John Mahama, said the delay notwithstanding, the mandate of the ECOWAS would be accomplished.

He said Buhari reiterated the appeal on Monday by ECOWAS leaders that the Gambian leaders do everything they can to douse the tension in the West African country which has led citizens to leave the country due to political uncertainty.

Shehu quoted Buhari as saying that ECOWAS was committed to the resolution of the crisis through inclusive dialogue with respect to the constitution and the will of the people of Gambia.
