Nigerian former
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan accused Barack Obama, the US president in
2015, of playing an active role against him during the elections that year.
Jonathan formulations are contained in a still unpublished
book in which he claims that Obama let him know that he would try to prevent
his re-election for a second term.
The actions of Obama and his officials told me that they
would do their utmost to impose a change of government in Nigeria and that they
were willing to do everything to achieve their ends, according to the book,
written by the journalist Olusegun Adeniyi.
They went so far as to station several warships in the Gulf
of Guinea in the days prior to the vote, adds the former head of state, who was
succeeded by current President Muhammadu Buhari, whose health has been the
subject of speculation since weeks ago his work pace slowed down.
The opposition accused me of supporting corruption, which
was taken up by similar allegations of US officials without providing tangible
evidence, Jonathan notes in his interview with the author of the book, entitled
Against the Rules of the Game.
He also accuses Washington of denying him the sale of
fighter-bombers for use in the fight against the armed Islamist group Boko
Haram, the author of frequent actions against the central Nigerian authorities.
President Donald Trump recently announced the willingness to
sell such aircraft to this West African country 'as evidence of commitment in
the fight against terrorism.'
