With about 300 cattle, fulani herdsmen destroys N15million cassava farm in Abia State

The Traditional ruler of Oriendu autonomous community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, HRM Eze Philip Ajomiwe has raised the alarm that his cassava farm worth N15 million has been destroyed by cattle belonging to fulani herdsmen.

Eze Ajomiwe who is the President of the South East zone of Cassava Framers Association of Nigeria accused cattle herders as being responsible for the destruction of the farm which is located at Amakama area of Umuahia.

He described the action as deliberate and a calculated attempt by the Fulani herdsmen to impoverish farmers in the state.

“This is nothing but an intentional destruction of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen,” he said.
He explained that the National Cereal Research Institute gave him 10 hectares of land out of which he used five hectares to plant improved cassava variety called “TME419”.

The monarch regretted that his efforts had been frustrated as Fulani herdsmen herded over 300 cows to the farm to graze on the cassava.
