The Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Ifeanyi Ubah,
on Tuesday dragged the Department of State Services, DSS, before a Lagos Federal
High Court over what he described as unlawful detention.
Counsel to the oil magnate, Mrs Ifeaoma Esom, in a motion
before Justice Mohammed Idris, claimed that the secret police had held her
client in custody since May 6.
Esom urged the judge to order the DSS to release Ubah and
prevent the secret police from coercing him to accede to “whatever conditions
they impose on him in exchange for his freedom.”
Against this backdrop, the trial judge ordered the DSS to
bring Ubah before him on May 12, 2017, to show cause why the businessman should
not be released unconditionally.
Recall that the oil magnate was over the weekend arrested by
the DSS over allegations of oil theft worth billions naira.
