Passengers going to Asaba and Onitsha are currently stranded
and begging for help as men of the Nigeria Police Force are said to be in
fierce battle with Fulani herdsmen along Ossisa road
over alleged killing and
injuring of its officers along Eku-Abraka road.
The police have consequently blocked the road for thorough
security checks for the herdsmen believed to be insde Ossisa forest.
Commercial vehicles and their passengers are forced to park
along the road as the police continues with their search.
The Passengers have now appealed to the Delta State
Commissioner of Police, CP Zanna Mohammed to prevail on his men to allow them
continue their journeys while search for the Fulani herdsmen continues.
Contacted, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations
Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka said, ” my brother, could you be kind enough to
call me back in the next fifteen minutes? Call me back in the next fifteen
minutes.”
Contacted after the fifteen minutes elapsed, he said,” my
brother hold on let me call you back in some few minutes time. Are you going to
Press now?,” he inquired.
Also contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP
Zanna Mohammed said, ” I’m in a security meeting now.”
It was gathered that the Fulani herdsmen had on Tuesday this
week killed a police officer and seriously injured four others along Eku-Abraka
road.
The injured policemen are currently receiving medical
treatments at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara while the
remains of the slained officer has been deposited at the morgue.
The Fulani herdsmen who had laid ambush along the road,
opened gunfire after sighting a police van.
This development is happening after the member representing
the people of Ethiope East Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly,
Hon. Evans Ivwurie had raised the alarm over the killings of his people by
Fulani herdsmen, a claim the Delta State Police Command had consistently
denied.
