JOHN OBI MIKEL DONATES $30,000 TO SIASIA'S 'ABANDONED' TEAM

Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has begun playing the Big Brother role after he donated $30,000 to the Nigeria Olympic team in Atlanta, AfricanFootball.com

An excited player of the Olympic team told AfricanFootball.com: “Mikel has donated $30,000 to the team. You know we have not received money since we left Nigeria.”

Mikel has been named the captain of the 85-man Nigerian contingent to next month’s Rio Olympics.

On Wednesday, coach Samson Siasia fired a passionate plea for the authorities concerned to come to the rescue of the team financially, saying this was not the way for any team to prepare for a major competition.

He also claimed he has not been paid five months’ salaries.

An unnamed Nigerian based in Atlanta picked up the bills of the team for their first 10 days in the United States of America.
